Special LABS Center for Persons With Disability (PWD)

Kurnool is a bustling town in the Rayalaseema region of Andhra Pradesh.

In July 2007, a special batch was organized in Kurnool for 77 youth with disablities, under ‘Urban Program for Advancement of Household Income’ (UPADHI) LABS.

The project was implemented in partnership with Andhra Pradesh Urban Services for the Poor (APUSP).

Despite her arms being very short, K Nagamani is a good painter and does fine embroidery work on sarees. A BA degree holder, she was sustaining her poor family through tuitions, embroidery and stitching. Her brother is also handicapped like her, and her widowed mother is a daily worker.
Nagamani read about the LABS program one day and took up a course in IT-Enabled Services to improve her computer skills and English. She works as a computer operator in Kurnool now, and dreams of becoming a computer faculty and doing a PG course in Sociology. She is grateful to LABS for enabling her to bring her family out of abject poverty.
